Here is the reality of your actions; you put other people in danger, you violated privacy all because your privilege thinks this is a joke.
You think it is okay to LOG ON to a social app for homosexuals and poke around like its a catalogue or the SALE page on Amazon to see what tickles your fancy.
Your “redaction” of the article brings only stronger insult to injury.
Taking the article down does not undo the damage you have done. You have introduced numerous athletes to any breadth of harm, tarnished or ruined relationship, futures and with the violent behaviours fuelled by homophobia, you may have set a death sentence for some.
Homophobia runs rampant; so much so that just over a month ago we lost 49 LGBT individuals and our TRUE allies in Orlando. Not some foreign country where it is ILLEGAL to be gay and where people you outed are from, but right here in the Western World where we think we are working towards a better society.
Today we did not uphold a deep set of The Daily Beast’s values. These values—which include standing up to bullies and bigots, and specifically being a proudly, steadfastly supportive voice for LGBT people all over the world—are core to our commitment to journalism and to our commitment to serving our readers.
Reading that part of your statement makes me sick. You are NOT a supportive voice, you are NOT an ally. You are the bully you boast you fight against. You are that bigot. You are the fuel that feeds homophobia.
You are NO ally to us!
Your “Note From the Editors” is a joke. That will not fix any the damage you have caused. There is simply nothing you can do to make this better.
What you do need to do is fire Nico Hines, this so called journalist, and you need to fire the Editor(s) who thought it was okay to publish this story.
Let me be clear when I say FIRE I am not at all making any slight reference to “requesting their resignation.” I am clearing saying they NEED TO BE FIRED!
I encourage you to visit our Brief Bulletin 10 and take a listen to the excerpt.
