Respect is paramount.
Earlier this evening I had an awesome conversation with my good friend TJ about the interactions with people that we have day to day and how important it is to; engage people, ask them how they are, call them by name, when you can, and look them in the eye.
Let us now fast forward to later this evening.
I just recently finished watching America’s Next Top Model, cycle 21, episode 2 and 3, and during the second episode something happened that was extremely inappropriate, rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional, presumptuous or offensive, I will let you decide once I explain.
I have been involved in fashion, human interaction, communication, social relations in one way, shape form or another for most of my life. I have seen the mechanics and how it works.
I am also a human being on this planet and long ago realised that those around me deserve that same respect I desire and require.
While watching this episode; a model, Matthew, was called up next by the amazing photographer, Yu Tsai, for his session in front of the camera. However; Yu Tsai called Matthew by “Matt” instead of the name Matthew.
Matthew kindly responded with the information that his name was Matthew and not Matt.
Now, during a cut scene it was shown that Yu Tsai actually made a comment to the effect, he could call him Matthew or Matt and that he deserved the ultimate respect because he was the photographer and how dare Matthew correct him. ((it is possible this is there for dramatic effect yet it was still said))
Show some respect I am the photographer
No you didn’t just do that.
Who do you think you are that you can call someone by a title or name other than what their parents gave them, they have earned or how they have identified themselves? ((If I tell you my name is Purple Spaghetti then call me Purple Spaghetti, not Tom))
Are you kidding me?
Great you are talented, that is awesome. Before writing this I studied some of your works, Yu Tsai, and I was blown away.
Yet, I am baffled at the assumption of power or right to offend; Matthew or Matthew’s parents at the gift they gave Matthew on what his name should be or that you presume you have the right to strip Matthew of his name.
One’s name is the only thing that stays with one their entire life, it may define them, it may not, but it is a special gift from their parents and it is not to be trifled with. ((The only one that gets to use a derivation or change their name is that single individual))
Just because you take awesome photos, sir that only means you take really awesome photos, it does not give you special powers, privileges or rights.
Just to avoid anyone coming back and talking about words and their power and such; sorry this is someone’s name, not an adjective. Get over yourself! ((OH and this is where I really wanna say, “Hey PicklePants, show some respect, I am the author of this article and I am very sure I have owned, and still do, more underwear than you. Gee whiz. Doesn’t really hold any water even though it’s true does it? I am just me, sharing my passion and hoping to get people happy and comfortable in their skin and in some sexy gear. Just your lil old turnipHed. However, you better call me turnipHed and that is small “t,” capital “H” and there is NO ‘a’ in Hed. Thank you!))
