Support Team turnipStyle - Pride & Remembrance Run 2014

The team at turnipStyle, we will be calling ourselves Team turnipStyle (clever aren’t we?), will be participating again this year, health willing.

You may remember my posting from last year – Help Me Celebrate a Huge Success

Last year was looking iffy, with turnipHed (Jason) being admitted to the cardiac unit at St. Mike’s just days before the starter’s pistol went off.

However, either through hard work, good luck or just plain craziness both of us were there on the starting line!

We want to do it again and do it better than we did last year.

Your support last year really blew us away and we hope you will find yourselves in a position to offer your support and encouragement this year.

The charities involved and that will benefit from the efforts of all those participating, are important to all of our communities, as well as are very close to us.

Last year we were just shy of $1000 and this year we really hope to be proud to raise $3000.

It may be a big goal, but turnipHed has a BIG heart. LITERALLY! (Look at the photo above – wink wink)

Oh yeah and tell your friends about us!  This is an easy URL to remember –!

Thanks again so much! See you at the Finish Line!

Each year, the Pride and Remembrance Association selects charitable organizations that support the LGBT community.

The 2014 Pride and Remembrance Run beneficiaries are:

Egale Canada Human Rights Trust: LGBT Youth Suicide Prevention Toolkit.
Egale is a national charity promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans human rights through research, education and community engagement. Support from this year’s Pride Run will provide funding for the creation of an LGBT Youth Suicide Prevention Toolkit to raise awareness of the unique challenges and mental health struggles of LGBT youth. Once complete, the toolkit will be distributed nationally to support networks (e.g. social workers, guidance counselors, teachers etc.) providing much needed educational awareness, as well as tools for prevention, intervention and after care.

Fife House: People Living with HIV/AIDS Housing Help Centre Peer Program.
Fife House’s mission is to provide secure and affordable housing and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area. Funding from this year’s Run will establish a Peer Program, providing opportunities for peers to build skills and capacities, while assisting homeless people living with HIV/AIDS find and secure affordable housing.

Pride and Remembrance Foundation
The Pride and Remembrance Foundation is the charitable foundation responsible for overseeing the receipting and distribution of funds raised by the annual Pride and Remembrance Run. The Foundation’s mandate is to provide financial support to registered charities that benefit the LGBT community. The Foundation accepts applications for financial assistance from registered charities throughout the year to have funds raised through the Pride and Remembrance Run make an even greater and sustainable long-term social impact. More information about the Foundation, including their funding  application, can be found on the ‘Foundation’ tab of the Pride Run website.

The Bill Graham Award
The Bill Graham Award was established in 2008 by the Pride and Remembrance Association to recognize service to the LGBT community through demonstrated volunteerism and/or community leadership.

Members of the community are invited to nominate individuals for the award. The Recipient will be named at the ceremonies following the annual Pride and Remembrance Run. The Award consists of a $1,000.00 donation to a Canadian registered charity chosen by the Recipient.

To nominate a member of the community for the Bill Graham Award, download the nomination form and email the completed form to [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is May 15, 2014.

95% of the items that we review, we pay for ourselves. Regardless, sometimes things don't go the way we plan them to go and when that happens we clean up the items really good and then put them up for sale in our shop at a deep discount for you to grab for yourself.

If you don't see anything there and would like to support us directly feel free to make a donation. We would love it! Another way to support us would be to visit and shop at our friends below.
