Ok so don’t harp on me, I know I have been bitching about the state of my building, especially the lapse in responsibilities on the part of management. However, irony is a clever bitch ((kind of like Karma is too)) and I just had to share this with you.
So a few nights ago there was a note taped to my door, in fact every door on my floor. We don’t have mail slots, we have a mail room here. Any way this is what the letter said.
We are happy to inform you that earlier on Monday, work on our elevators was completed and we have had uninterrupted and smooth service for our residents throughout the week.
We continue to monitor the performance of the elevators at
123 HellStreet, and again thank you for your patience through the difficult perieod you have faced during repar and inspections cycles.
We will remain vigilant in our inspections and preventative maintenance programs to try and avoid disruptions in the future, Again, thank-you for your understanding.
So you are wondering where the irony was in all that?
I stood in line for 45 minutes waiting for the ONE elevator that was working, to find this letter taped to my door.
Later that evening I got a message from a friend that lives in the building warning me that ALL the elevators were out. ((He is aware of my medical condition and didn’t want me stranded))
Today, in the local Metro newspaper ((a small paper published with local news targeted at commuters)) there was an article about our city councillor making efforts to bring this to light and effect responsible change.
The article online went into much more detail but I am not going to share that as it gives away too much information about my location. ((If you want that information you have to work for it))
Here are just some highlights that I found interesting;
When every elevator is working, it is a pretty big surprise,” he says. “There is usually at least one broken and once every month or two, three of them will break down at once so you’re stuck with one elevator going between 30 floors.
Though calls from Torstar News Service to the
Mystery Addressproperty management office were not returned, Wong-Tam ((City Councillor)) says the repair delays were caused because the building was not at the top of the maintenance queue.
The building is under pressure because it has been coping with previous electrical fire damage making repairs more difficult, but she says the property manager “welcomes” a potential policy.
Repair standards, Wong-Tam says, can help those who are elderly, pregnant or with mobility issues.
“If you are in a wheelchair and you live on the 20th floor of a building and your elevators are out, you are basically housebound and that is grossly unfair,” she says.

Anyway, guess it is the small things that make one laugh…or is that just because I drink too much? ((Wink Wink))
