Powershop Ad Depicts Pope Blessing Gay Marriage

An ad for New Zealand power company Powershop, which depicts a marriage of two men being blessed by Pope Benedict XVI, is the latest in the company’s “Same Power, Different Attitude,” campaign. Despite complaints filed with the Advertising Standards Authority stating the ad is offensive to Christians and mocks the Catholic Church, the authority has ruled the image is not likely to cause widespread offense, the New Zealand Herald reports. In a statement on their blog, Powershop says the campaign “is intended to be both thought provoking and satirical.”
