Ouch That Hurt
This is going to be a quick one - just waiting for MT1 to come over and have a beer and hang out.
Been home since about 2000 but up since 0400 so it has been a long day for me today.
A disappointing one too. Was working with a great crew but as you might have picked up from my Twitter - I had a tiny bit of an accident at work today and well I got hurt and was not able to continue.
Basically, what happened is this. When I stepped off the aircraft today, after our first flight, I failed to notice that the bridge was not right up against the side of the aircraft and a little bit lower than the lip of the aircraft door.
When stepping back on the aircraft I slipped on a wet spot, was raining this morning,2 and I slipped ending up pronating my ankle and then my foot slipped in between the edge of the bridge and the aircraft, wedging my leg there.
Yup it hurt - luckily no cuts though so I did not bleed all over the place.
I tried to work the next flight and just walk it off but since the flight was really bumpy and I was limping a bit I was really wobbly.
So when we got to our next destination3 I off loaded myself hoping that I could go right back home.4
This was at 1010 and the last flight left at 0945 and the next one was not until 1715. PERFECT!
So work sent me to a hotel for the afternoon where I spent the day with my foot up on the pillows, under a bag of ice and watched TV.
I finally got home around 2000 - needless to say turnipHed is tiredHed.
The reason I am disappointed is because I really really really liked the crew I was working with and wanted to continue working with them. Safety and well-being comes first though.
My ankle made a really loud and painful crack earlier this evening and since then not much pain or discomfort at all - just a bit tender and occasionally a bit of discomfort with no noticeable swelling! YEAH!
