A Long Long Day
Yesterday was a very long day for me. I was up for about 21.5 hours and near the end of that my body was screaming for sleep.
I woke up about an hour before my alarm was set to go off. I have a bit of a crazy routine in the mornings. My first alarm goes off, to which I jump out of bed, go turn on the Espresso machine1 and turn on the kettle2, go pee, then crawl back in for 10-15 minutes while all that happens.
Well ya that did not happen yesterday. I rolled over and woke up wide awake after only being in bed for less than 4 hours. Quite decent for a nap but not that great for a night’s sleep. I tossed and turned for about 30 minutes and then out of pure frustration jumped out of bed and ran through the routine early.
Work went really well, had a lot of fun actually. The first 2 flights were pretty much the business crowd but I was quite surprised - they were quite the lively and fun bunch. The second 2 flights, were the "leisure" crowd and they were quite dull and boring. I had to "shame" the crowd on my last flight3 by telling him that the early AM business crowd were a much livelier and fun bunch.
That got things picked up.
So just before my 4th flight I called my sister to see if we were still on target for me flying there and her picking me up at the airport.4
She tells me that she is able to leave earlier, woohoo, there was a flight leaving about 45 minutes after I was scheduled to land that would have saved me a 3 hour wait at the airport - so I hung up called and changed my flight listing, loaded up the plane and we took off.
It got a bit hectic back in Toronto. We had a super long taxi to the gate5 and we pulled into the gate right next to the gate that I was supposed to be going out of. Problem? Yup!
My suitcase was in the crew room all the way on the other side of the terminal. Plus, I needed to grab something to eat and of course grab a smoke or 2.
So ran to the crew room, dropped off my flight bag, went to sandwich shop, ordered, paid, went outside, had 2 darts, came back in, picked up sandwich, went to crew room, grabbed all bags and then ran back to the other side of the terminal and boarded my flight with about 4 minutes to spare!
Yup you guessed it - I was a sweaty mess but I made it.
My sister was at the airport waiting for me, we jumped in the car and headed to her place, with a couple stops for supplies on the way home. Of course Guinness was one of them.
I got a "gift with purchase" with my Guinness that really cracked me up and I know exactly who6 I’ll be sending it to. Just hope they realise it is not a real gift and not a "white elephant" gift either. Just that it is too funny!
We made supper, comfort food, had a couple pints, watched TV but at 2100 Local, 2300 my time I could NOT keep my eyes open so I was off to bed. Don’t even remember my head hitting the pillow.
Needless to say I got a good 8 solid hours of sleep, however that translated into being awake at 0600 Local. Sister woke up around the same time so we have just been lazy, drinking coffee and having breakfast. Going to go out and run errands soon and pick up movies to watch later.
I will have to force myself to take a nap this afternoon so I stay up later tonight because when I go to work for Sunday and Monday - I am doing red-eye flights and so my sleep schedule has to be flipped over.
Trust all are having a good start to their weekend.
Cheers, tH/out

Glad to hear you had a good sleep. Your lazy day now sounds like what Mark and I are just about to start having.
P.S. I have drank all your Guinness - Sorry!

There was no Guinness in my fridge when I left yesterday - made sure to drink it all.
So that makes me wonder who's apartment you were in?
